Pasting plain text on iPhone’s Mail app

The iPhone is a popular brand of smartphone.

Discover below some tips that enable a hassle-free process of copying and pasting plain text into the Mail app.

In today’s fast-paced society, navigating through daily life can feel like a continuous juggling act. Whether it’s a spontaneous school pick-up for a sick child during a regular workday or managing a work crisis while on vacation, there are times when work must be done without access to a laptop.

Sending emails while on the move is suitable for sending fast and spontaneous replies. However, in certain situations, a more comprehensive reply is necessary. This might entail inserting data, quotations or details from external sources such as documents or applications. This can be challenging when utilizing the iPhone’s Mail app.

The iPhone’s Mail app does not support the pasting of plain text. This means that any copied content from external sources will maintain its original formatting, including font, size, and color. This results in emails appearing like a collage, with different fonts and sizes scattered throughout. This is far from ideal and definitely not a professional look.

The task of formatting text in the Mail app can be quite daunting, and it is not for the faint-hearted. However, there are some solutions available that make it easier to copy and paste plain text into the app without any hassle, instead of struggling and becoming overly frustrated.

Step 1: Utilize the ‘share’ feature

To utilize this approach, all that is required is an iPhone. Simply follow these steps to copy and paste plain text into your Mail app:

  • Find the app with the text you want to copy.
  • Highlight the text you want to include in your email.
  • Tap the “share” button (square with rounded edges and an upward arrow) in the top right corner.
  • Swipe up on the “share sheet” and select “Copy”.
  • Open the Mail app and start a new email.
  • Tap the “Paste” button to insert the copied text into your email.

Alternative Method: Utilize the ‘Plain Text Paste’ Application

In case the previous approach was unsuccessful or if the “share button” option was not available, an alternative solution could be utilizing the “Plain Text Paste” application.

To copy and paste text into your email, first open the app or source containing the desired text. Then, highlight the text and click on the Copy option. Next, launch the “Plain Text Paste” app and a prompt will appear. Choose the “Allow paste” option to complete the process.

Kindly take note that the application will automatically paste and recopy the updated plain text for you at this stage.

  1. Launch the Mail application.
  2. Select the “Compose” option for email.
  3. Press the “Paste” button.

Instead of having to manually enable “Allow paste” each time, you can adjust the app’s preferences to prevent the prompt from showing up repeatedly.

Navigate to the Settings menu on your iPhone and select “Plain Text” from the alphabetical list near the bottom. Then, choose the option to “Paste from Other Apps” and ensure that it is allowed.
